🦓 The Meaning Behind the Zebra
This piece was created to raise awareness for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS)—a group of genetic connective tissue disorders that can affect joints, skin, and blood vessels. Symptoms can vary widely and are often misunderstood or overlooked.
In the medical community, the phrase “When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras” is commonly used to encourage doctors to consider common diagnoses first. However, people with EDS are the “zebras”—the rare cases that don’t fit the usual patterns.
That’s why the zebra has become a powerful symbol for the EDS community: it represents those living with rare and often invisible conditions who deserve recognition, understanding, and support.
💜 Created with Purpose
This pendant is especially meaningful to me, as I live with EDS myself. I designed it not only as a piece of jewellery, but as a way to:
- Start conversations
- Spread awareness
- Help others feel seen and understood
Whether you wear it for yourself, a loved one, or to show support, this piece carries a message of strength and solidarity.
Perfect as a thoughtful gift or a personal reminder that being different is something to be proud of.
